PROFILE

Prof. Carlos Agelet de Saracibar is Ingeniero de Caminos, Canales y Puertos (UPC BarcelonaTech, 1985) and Dr. Ingeniero de Caminos, Canales y Puertos (UPC BarcelonaTech, 1990). He has been Assistant Professor (1988-1991), Associate Professor (1991-2003) and currently he is Full Professor of Continuum Mechanics and Structural Analysis (since 2003) at the Escuela TĂ©cnica Superior de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos, UPC BarcelonaTech. He was Visiting Scholar at the Division of Applied Mechanics of the Stanford University (1993) invited by Prof. J.C. Simo. He has been Vice-Dean of Research, Chair of the Research & Doctoral Committee, and Head of the Doctoral Program in Civil Engineering at the Escuela TĂ©cnica Superior de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos of Barcelona (1997-2005) and member of the Doctoral Committee of the Universidad PolitĂ©cnica de Cataluña (1998-2002). He has been also an elected member of the ESAFORM Scientific Committee (1998-1999) and the ESAFORM Board of Directors (2000-2012). Head of the Specific Research Center Computational Continuum Mechanics (MC)2 - UPC (since 2018).

Prof. Carlos Agelet de Saracibar has published 38 research papers in JCR indexed scientific journals, 125 communications in International Conferences, Congresses and Symposia, 10 research monographs and 5 book chapters in the field of non-linear computational mechanics of solids, with focus on finite element technology, non-linear constitutive models, contact mechanics, coupled thermo-mechanical problems, and numerical simulation of material forming and production processes, such as casting, friction stir welding (FSW), and additive manufacturing (AM). He has also published 3 text books on Continuum Mechanics. He has been Invited Guest Editor of a special issue of the International Journal of Plasticity (IJP), and special issues of the open access journals Metals and Mathematics.

Prof. Carlos Agelet de Saracibar has participated in over 70 national and international conferences. He has been Chairman of 3 international conferences (ICME, ICOMP, COMPLAS). member of the Scientific Committee in over 40 international conferences (WCCM, ECCM, COMPLAS, COUPLED PROBLEMS, NUMIFORM, ICTP, ESAFORM, ECCOMAS) and member of the International Organizing Committee of 7 international symposia (PLASTICITY). He has also co-organized over 35 invited mini-symposia and invited sessions (WCCM, ECCOMAS, ECCM, ESMC, PLASTICITY, ESAFORM, COMPLAS, COUPLED PROBLEMS, CMN). He has been invited as plenary lecturer in 1 international conference (ICOMP), and as keynote lecturer in 12 international symposia and conferences (PLASTICITY, ICTP).

Prof. Carlos Agelet de Saracibar is the author of the textbook Nonlinear Continuum Mechanics - An Engineering Approach published by Springer. The book is intended to be used in Advanced Master Courses on Computational Mechanics,

Prof. Carlos Agelet de Saracibar has been acting regularly as evaluation expert for three national (ANECA, ANEP, AGAUR) and five international (ARRSCNCSFNP, FNRFRS-FNRS) governmental agencies, universities (ULB), scientific associations (ESAFORM), and scientific & technological institutions (SKYWIN), as panelist for technological institutions (COTEC), and as reviewer for several international scientific journals (IJP, MADCMAMEJCOMP, CPMIJNME, IJSSCAS, EFMFEADEC, AMIJMF, ADDMA, RIMNICNME, CMMS, SCIPEDIA).

Prof. Carlos Agelet de Saracibar has been Guest Editor of a Special Issue of the International Journal of Plasticity on Numerical Simulation of Forming Processes (2001), with Prof. M. Cervera, two Special Issues of the Open Journal Metals, one as a single Guest Editor on Friction Stir Welding and Processing in Alloy Manufacturing (2019), and one Special Issue of the Open Journal Mathematics on Finite Element Analysis. He is member of the Editorial Board of Computer Methods in Materials Science (since 2006), International Journal of Material Forming (since 2008) and Revista Internacional de MĂ©todos NumĂ©ricos para Cálculo y Diseño en IngenierĂ­a (since 2010).

Prof. Carlos Agelet de Saracibar has participated in several European and National research funded projects, mainly related to the application of the Finite Element Method (FEM) to the development of tools for Computer Aided Engineering (CAE), with focus on the computational modeling and numerical simulation of coupled thermo-mechanical problems, with applications to the numerical simulation of industrial metal forming processes, such as casting, laser heat forming (LHF), shaped metal deposition (SMD), welding and friction stir welding (FSW), and additive manufacturing (AM) processes.
